January 4, 2009: Happy New Year everyone! Those of you who've been here in the past have probably
noticed the new ads on the pages. It's true, I'm inching the website towards the 21st century. Got a long way to go before
it becomes anything like sophisticated but what the heck, I'm still having fun. I always have a lot more
time to devote to it during the winter, I'll get all enthused about changing things around and adding new companies,
and as the year gets warmer I spend more and more time outside with the site taking a back seat. I think that's just
the way it's going to be until I retire from my day job and have more time. That'll be a while yet. Anyway the ads
will help pay for the new ISP and hopefully keep my enthusiasm up, so if you feel like checking them out please do. We had a rare snowfall here in my neck of the woods...umm, desert. We got about 8 inches at my house. Haven't seen anything like it for almost 25 years. It was a lot of snow but not very cold, so while it piled up fast it was melting at the same time, and was gone within about 3 days. My workplace shut down so we got to play in it for a day. Yes, I hear many of you laughing, but in this area getting snow is a Big Deal, and no one knows how to cope with much of it. We were lucky too in that we only lost one big limb off a pine tree, some folks had much more tree damage. The moisture will really help my dry garden and all the trees. We're starting to hope for a good wildflower season too. |

| November 22, 2008: I've finally managed to make a couple changes to the website. I have moved the files
off my home ISP and signed up with a commercial web-hosting provider. I had some difficulty last month so that provided
the motivation to finally get that done. I'll be renovating the pages sometime and I'll probably be selling ad space. That
isn't something I ever thought I'd do, but everything else is commercial now; I doubt it will cause the world to end if I start. In my area we are still having water issues. The local agency now says we will get only 15% of our water allocation for 2009, and anything above that will be extremely expensive. I've started ripping out a lot of my front garden already. This should also cut down on the amount of maintenance I have to do, and perhaps give me some more time to work on the site. I plan to continue the catalog site as best I can, although it's not what I want it to be. My husband and I are very involved with horsey-type activities now so all my gardening activities are suffering, but whenever I'm out there I remember why it is that I love gardening. And boy do I miss my vegetable garden! Due to the whole water problem I only planted about one-third of what I normally do last summer, and I had problems...my tomatoes were a dismal failure, and my chile peppers were very odd this year...lots of very small fruit on healthy plants. Too much nitrogen, maybe, I know my practice of dumping straight sheep manure on the garden leads to over-fertilizing. The sweet peppers were wonderful though, the zucchini came through as always, and we had a decent crop of beans and snow peas. I hope last summer's gardening was good for everyone else, may you have a nice relaxing winter and be ready to go in the spring!
